The Role of Implicit Intelligence Theories, Supporting Autonomy and Epistemological Beliefs in Predicting Academic Engagement of Students

Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the implicit intuition of theories, support for autonomy and epistemological beliefs in predicting academic engagement among students. Methods: The research method was descriptive correlational. The statistical population of this study consisted of all students of Payame Noor University of Tabriz in the academic year of 2017-2018. According to the type of research and the number of variables studied, 400 people were selected. Data were gathered by the savvy academic involvement questionnaires, the implicit beliefs of Abdolfattah and Yiths, the support of Black and Dey autonomy, and Shumer's epistemological beliefs. Data analysis was performed by Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: The results of the study showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between additive beliefs and support for autonomy with academic involvement. Also, there is a negative and significant relationship between the speed of learning and the intrinsic nature of epistemological beliefs with academic engagement.Moreover , the results of regression analysis showed that variables of intelligence beliefs, support of autonomy and epistemological beliefs can predict the variables of academic involvement in students. Conclusion: Attention to intelligence beliefs, autonomy and epistemological beliefs play an important role in academic engagement.
